A detailed study of the site and its surroundings informed the design, with massing studies used to carefully balance the footprint, neighbouring properties and the wider context.
The result is a sympathetic single-storey rear extension with a cranked footprint that opens towards the garden. A cast concrete plinth and vertical timber fins add subtle detail, with the fins wrapping around to form a covered motorbike store.
Above, a loft conversion with front and rear dormers uses a change in form and material to avoid an overbearing roof structure and sit comfortably against the existing house.
Inside, an open-plan kitchen, dining and dayroom forms the heart of the home, balanced by quieter spaces including a snug and home office. The layout is designed to adapt as the family grows and their needs change.
A new staircase opens up the existing entrance into a top-lit, double-height space, bringing natural light deep into the heart of the house.
