For a young family, the aim was simple: make the house work better without losing its original character.
The contemporary extension reinterprets details from the existing house, including arched openings, patterned brickwork and crafted details. Its deliberately wonky, asymmetrical form adds a bit of personality, the allotment growers next door call it the “winking house”. They’re not wrong.
Sustainability was central to the design, with a highly insulated timber and steel frame, improved airtightness, solar panels and an air-source heat pump reducing energy use and reliance on fossil fuels.
Inside, bright, generous spaces give the family room to cook, eat, socialise and spread out, with the original house still very much part of the story.
A playful mix of old and new, designed for how the family lives now.
