Common Practice

Located on the Welsh coast, in the seaside town of Tresaith, this property had buckets (and spades) of potential.  The house had originally been built in the 90s for an elderly couple, and came with brown uPVC windows and pokey rooms with an awkward internal layout that stifled flow through the building.

No extensions were proposed to the property as it quickly became apparent that there was plenty of space available already, it just needed rearranging a little.  The first big change was to bring the kitchen to the front of the house so that it was close to the front door. This then enabled us to open up the rooms across the back of the house where there were views across open countryside to the hills beyond.  Doorways were widened, doors removed, and some extra large sliding doors were installed at the back of the house to bring bags of natural light into the once dark spaces.

Externally, the house was re-rendered in places and over-clad with external insulation and a timber ship-lap. This, combined with new slate windowsills, helps tie the property more sensitively into its landscape.
