The brief for this project was twofold: to sensitively modernise an early 20th-century home while adapting it for multi-generational living. The family needed additional bedrooms and generous, versatile living spaces that would feel welcoming and inclusive for all ages.
At the front, the design responds to the property’s historic character. Extensions were carefully scaled and detailed to sit harmoniously alongside the original architecture, ensuring the street-facing aspect remains in keeping with its neighbours. At the rear, however, the design adopts a more contemporary tone. Modern forms in sympathetic brown brick, with modernist detailing, create a confident contrast, manifesting the homes new purpose.
Inside, the focus is on flexibility and light. Large, flowing open-plan spaces are designed to accommodate social gatherings yet can also be subdivided to create smaller, more intimate settings. By combining sensitive external design with thoughtful internal planning, the project provides a home that respects its heritage whilst being fully equipped for the future—a comfortable, adaptable setting for multiple generations to share and enjoy.
