Having fabric first, low- carbon aspirations as a common goal for our clients and us, has meant these values were able run through the project from beginning to end.

The house is a typical post-War semi in Chorlton.  There was insufficient height in the loft space for a conversion, and the site was long and narrow.  The challenge was to deliver a contemporary family home, which could incorporate all the aspects of modern living: home-working, flexibility for friends and family and adaptability for a growing family.

The house, like many of this era, struggled with overheating in summer and being too cold in winter (rarely comfortable). By responding directly to the site’s constraints we have completely modernised the home with a contemporary, highly insulated, timber frame design.  We also incorporated underfloor heating, air-source heat-pumps, solar panels and battery-storage, electric vehicle charging and a generous bike store for this cycle-focussed family.

This project has given our clients their home-for-life.  It is a building that has the flexibility to adapt to their needs as time goes on, and most importantly it’s a joy to live in that doesn’t cost the earth to run.
