Careful remodelling transformed this modest 1960s infill house, nestled amongst a collection of striking 1930s Dutch barns. With limited architectural character of its own, the existing house needed a considered approach that responded to its distinctive surroundings.
A warm, tactile palette of Scottish larch, zinc and new clay tiles complements the existing brickwork, bringing greater coherence and character to the house. Modest extensions to the porch, rear elevation and loft create additional space while keeping the overall intervention deliberately restrained.
With moving out during construction not an option, the project was designed to be delivered in phases, allowing the family to remain at home while spreading the investment over time. The result is a more cohesive and characterful home, achieved through a series of carefully considered interventions.
